D.C. is a complicated place. Anyone that tells you with certainty they have an answer doesn’t. I picked this picture to capture D.C. for a number of reasons. This was the morning of the much debated Obamacare decision by the Supreme Court. I walked outside of my apartment a block away and could hear people yelling. I walked over and found this. The yelling got louder. It was a strange experience. People had so much of their identity staked out in winning or losing this decision. This picture captures that moment and all the protesters but also this dude to the bottom right. He makes this picture. His body language is verbose. You can tell he’s taking it all in and doesn’t quite know what to make of the situation. Maybe he was just tired. Or maybe he was tired of seeing people place their identity in this 10,000 page piece of legislation and in their political views. I’m not sure but it was an interesting morning.
