Why can’t we just like art instead…

the daily what.

Look at your Life. Look at your choices.

There was an earthquake in the Philippines this morning. 7.6. Tsunami warning issued.

There was another shooting. This time a super market in New Jersey. A handgun and AK-47 were found.

A survivor of the London terror attacks competed in the para olympic games. She lost both legs in the 2007 attacks.

I saw someone tweet yesterday “I’d rather live in Hati if Obama is reelected.  ” there’s so much wrong with this but I’ll start with the fact it’s spelled Haiti.

Clint Eastwood spoke to a chair at the RNC last night. Poor decision. He said lawyers make poor presidents. Failing to realize that Romney has a law degree from Harvard.

Vandy couldn’t pull off the upset. So close, but 0 points off two turnovers isn’t going to cut it. Oh vanderball.

and that’s your daily what.

things you didn't know you didn't know

Lunar thoughts.

I was sitting outside yesterday and realized that the moon was staring at me. Last week Neil Armstrong died and that had been on my mind; he was a humble fascinating man.

After Neil and Buzz Aldrin (with a name like that he could really only be an astronaut) successfully landed the lunar lander on the moon, they had a scheduled meal time. In a brief moment of silence before meal time began, they opened a package containing bread and a packet containing wine and they took communion. The first food ever eaten on the moon was taken through communion.

During communion they read a verse that had been prepared for that moment. Neil took out a piece of paper and placed it over the abort button. The piece of paper contained John 15.5 which reads,

“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me”

I find it incredible that the men who had just done something that people had deemed impossible took a moment to say that apart from God they could do nothing. Regardless of what you think or believe I think it shows the significance of the convictions both Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin held.

coffee line conversation

Was talking to a friend this morning who had spent this summer hiking with a small group. Part of the deal was that each of them would spend several days off alone in the wilderness.

I thought this was incredible. They would go off alone and simply spend time resting in the wilderness before returning to the grueling hike. There are amazing things our society does well, but resting isn’t one of them.

I don’t know where we lost our focus on rest but we need to find it and restore its importance.
